Brooklyn: An Era Past
N. Jay Jaffee was deeply committed to progressive causes. His political activism began with union organizing in the 1940s and 1950s. After serving in the infantry in World War II and experiencing heavy combat, his anti-war beliefs became even stronger. He marched for peace, civil rights, and economic equality. Although all of his photographs reflected his beliefs, these photographs portray events, ideas, and images that expressed his worldview.
